Anthony Stradivari the Celebrated Violin Maker (Dover Books On Music: Violin)
Renowned nineteenth-century musicologist François-Joseph Fétis assembled this authoritative survey with the assistance of noted violin maker and dealer Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. Focusing on the work of the Italian master violin maker Stradivarius, this volume explores the early history and construction of stringed instruments. In addition, this valuable resource provides rare, contemporary glimpses of the world of Paganini, Schumann, and Berlioz.
A reprint of a rare 1864 publication, this study offers intriguing historical information to violinists, music historians, and music lovers of all ages. A new Introduction by famed musicologist Stewart Pollens provides further insights.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2023Easy to follow along with the opera and to bounce back & forth between Italian and English. A couple of minor variances from the opera as sung. Not sure if that is the book or the singers taking some minor liberty with the libretto.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2021Light weight and easy to read. Lovely to have it when watching productions of the opera when no English subtitles are available.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2014This is a very good translation of the Italian staying true to the spirit of the meaning, but individual numbers such as "Si. Mi chiamano Mimi" are difficult to quickly find within the libretto.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2020I purchased for my husband because La Boheme is his favorite. He was pleasantly surprised. I wish there were more Dover Opera series available.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2017Should be presented in a more classy printing and binding.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2014Wonderful, I don't speak or read Italian, but it is fairly easy to follow the score as it has the Italian on the left and English on the right.
I have the Toscanini with the NBC Symphony version and it is wonderful!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2016Bought this so we could do a bit of prep before our first trip to see this opera. Excellent reference.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2016THis libretto is just right to read before the opera. The size of the type and layout make it easy to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars This series is great.
Having ripped my CDs to hard disk and boxed up the originals, I didn't want to go digging through the boxes for the little CD sized librettos which are falling apart due to overuse. This series is great.
