The famed Athenian tragedy in which Oedipus’s own faults contribute to his tragic downfall.

A great masterpiece on which Aristotle based his aesthetic theory of drama in the Poetics and from which Freud derived the Oedipus complex, King Oedipus puts out a sentence on the unknown murderer of his father Laius. Pages are not properly attached and they started to fall out the day I started to use it. If you need this book for school do not get this, get a different kind, other students have had the same problem.

This edition of Sophocles' "Oedipus the King" is very reliable. Not only does it exemplify Aristotle's "Poetics," but it can also help to explain Freytag's plot model. For young students just beginning to explore Greek Tragedy, this is the edition that leaves nothing out, and yet is easy to follow.

My son is in the 11th grade. He had 3 books that were required reading and this was one of them. I feel the choices were good ones, and here I could get them all in one place, as I did look at a couple of bookstores while I was brousing and they didn't have them. I hope to make this easier in the future, getting my son a kindle for Christmas (I hope.)

Short read, very entertaining what a classic.

I was looking for a much easier and more modern translation of this play, and this book definitely exceeded those expectations. I bought this on my Kindle, but just in case, I also had an older translation of the play, which was definitely difficult to understand vs this one. I recommend this one so much, very easy to understand!

I am always a little concerned that things might be too good to be true, however in this case, the price was not indicative of "getting what you paid for" but far exceeded my expectations. The book was in excellent condition, the price unbelievably good, and the delivery was much faster than I expected. Needed for the beginning of the semester and was surprised to actually receive it in time. Thank you!
