The author identifies each of the Seven Wonders of the World and devotes a chapter to each wonder. The author also provides a brief biography of the people who identified them. The only Seven Wonder still in existence are the pyramids of Giza. The Light House of Alexandria remained until destroyed by an earthquake in the 14th century. The other wonders did not survive much beyond the Era of Christianity. Scholars question if the Hanging Gardens of Babylon existed. This book discusses each wonder’s location, approximate time of construction, probable description and the date of destruction.

In the last but of the book I had A little trouble following the people b/c of their names but that is more to do with history than how it is written. Good read otherwise.

Was looking forward to reading this one, but: was a touch disappointed.
It takes an entire chapter to impart that the Hanging Gardens probably did not exist.
No one seems to know just how the pyramids were built.
There is an inordinate amount of: waffle, padding, back stories and folk tales which tend to cause the readers' interest to decline …etc …

Some herd of some not but OH what a wonderful walk through history! Your explanations give rise to many theories which you so amply discuss. The Great Pyramid will always be my favorite! Love your short histories!

A good guide to the ancient wonders, this book covers the seven ancient wonders and gives you a overview over who built them and why, where were they located, what remains today, and what evidence do we have for their actual existence.

Learn about this as well as what we think today their impact could have been. Well worth a read.

This is an interesting review of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Most people don't know the inside story of these architectural wonders. This book has a chapter on each wonder and goes into detail about who and why each was constructed, where it was located, and what happened to each (if known). The author talks about the impact of each wonder. I was amazed that so many were decimated by earthquakes. I wasn't aware that earthquakes were so prevalent.

In the conclusion, the author mentioned that the wonders were mostly Hellenistic in origin. They might have included the Great Wall of China and the Roman Coliseum if they hadn't been directed thusly. This was interesting reading and well-worth my time. Overall Score = 4.5 stars.

Well written and soundly academically structured! The sequence of the histories compliment and the source inclusions are solid; both helpful if one wants to dig deeper!

In my childhood, I read a,fair amount about the 7 wonders of the world and could even recall them: the Pyramids of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Temple of Artemis, the Statue of Zeus, The Lighthouse of Alexandria and the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus. This book expands on these structures, traces their history from creation to demise. Overall, a book worth reading once.
