Emperor Trajan of the Roman Empire dies and is followed by young Emperor Hadrian, which creates violent political turmoil within the ruling elite of Rome. Taking advantage of Roman confusion and weakness, the Dacian rebels living in the unoccupied lands called Free Dacia launch a series of bloody attacks on the Roman occupied Dacia Traiana. Will Dacia be freed? Will Hadrian’s enemies succeed in their plot to assassinate him? The future of Dacia and Rome hang in the balance.

The fourth installment continues as the first three to tell the history of Dacia and for that we should be thankful to the author for addressing a very interesting and important part of history of the Roman empire and particularly that of an area of Europe about not much is known. This book is likely the weaker of the four. While historically as accurate as known history allows it, the story is thin and the characters cartoonish. The principal idea of Romanization of the larger, Free Dacia is hinted at, but just briefly. This idea should be further explored in another book leading to the Roman evacuation of Dacia under Aurelian.

The story of the Free Dacians living outside of Dacia Traiana after Trajan's conquest of Dacia is told in the fourth novel of this very original series. Equally interesting is the backstory of the death of Emperor Trajan after his unfinished war in Parthia, and the political games and machinations required to bring Hadrian to power.

The Free Dacians and Sarmatians set off a major rebellion following the death of Trajan in 117 A.D., which required Hadrian's intervention while he also fought off his political enemies who plotted to assassinate him. This is important history and exciting fiction for fans of ancient Rome and those who are curious about Dacia. A very good read.

Dacian Rebellion continues the story of the struggle of the Dacian Nation against the Roman excursion. The storylines were excellent with many twists and turns. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Roman fiction.

I read all of this series of books, and they were action packed. They hold your interest to the last word. As a Briton, I sympathise with the Dacians. While even in Rome, no matter what level you were within the society, life could not be guaranteed. Good information to extend my knowledge.

The former three Book were very good and written in a fine pace, this one is just a mop up and an aftermath of what happend then. Neither specially interesting nor is it a must read.
