About the author
During her early childhood, Teresa lived in a small town north of Mexico, playing in the river, walking with the cows, and feeding the neighbor’s pigs. When her parents decided to move to the city (Monterrey) to give Teresa and her brothers a better education, she spent these later years missing that quiet life. Teresa was a very shy girl at school, and drawing helped her connect with other kids.
There was no career for Illustration in Mexico in those days, so Teresa decided to study Graphic Design and spent many afternoons reading books on art in the university’s library. She also took many painting courses and even went to Italy for a short course at the Leonardo Da Vinci School (Florence). Eventually, she started working as a children’s book illustrator and been doing that ever since.
Now Teresa lives in Puerto Vallarta, drawing for kids (as she did in her school). Every other day, she gets to see the cows outside her house. And that makes her happy.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2020Great book for kids
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2020Over the last several months I’ve searched for books for the two newest, youngest members of my family, and have found several for the youngest, but it’s slightly more difficult to find books for the next oldest (who is only older by a little more than three months), but I figured this one might appeal to his father, and maybe to him when is a bit older.
For those of us who have seen Braveheart, that movie is based on the story of William Wallace, and the legendary Battle of Stirling Bridge, so some may be want to share this amazing story with their children. A rousing story of brain vs. brawn, of having the courage to fight for freedom from tyranny, and living a life that is worth fighting for. A battle where a group of random men, William Wallace having been living as an outlaw as this begins, and among this group are some slightly more disreputable than others. They are vastly outnumbered, and yet with the hope for freedom through victory they take on the English army in a battle for their independence, and come out of battle victorious.
The eye-catching illustrations by Theresa Martinez will appeal to parent and child, alike, with the inspiring story written by Molly MacPherson condensed into a slight 32 pages making this a manageable read aloud book, as well. This story is part of the Traditional Scottish Tales series, and is aimed at the age group up to eleven.

5.0 out of 5 stars Appealing for children
My daughter is studying the Scottish wars of independence at primary school. This is a lovely book about William Wallace and she enjoyed reading it. I find it really difficult to get quality reading material for young children about Scottish history but this series is fab.
