Samantha is not living the life she thought she was living. Teenager Samantha Rhodes has wandered the desert since her war-torn childhood in bleakest solitude, until the day she discovers an animatronic genie in the sand capable of reversing her fortunes and fulfilling her wildest wishes. After a chance encounter with a starving stranger named Ryder begging for help from a distant village, Samantha and her genie Adam rediscover the outside oases in all their revenge-driven brutality. And from the curious way the lizards and birds watch her with glassy eyes, the way the stars in the sky grow exponentially in number during nights of tragedy, and the way captured raiders whisper of a blue goddess wandering in the darkness, Samantha finds herself drawn deeper into a superstitious world filled more with mystery than with terror. And within the wreckage of secret, ancient tunnels beneath the moonlit sands, Samantha discovers why the god of her oasis has given her a magical, weaponized genie. Along with the frightening truth about the stars in their midnight skies.

It was an awesome story told in a way that was gripping...I couldn't put I down! I can't wait to get Book 2.

I was recommended this book by Reddit and it did not disappoint. I'll be honest, I don't read often and I've only read a handful of books so I don't have the largest of libraries under my belt, but I genuinely enjoyed reading the beginning to this series. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because a 5/5 would mean it was perfect. I'll have to say that at times I had to go back and re-read certain sections as I felt they didn't make sense. Some typos(very few) and some misspellings were present. Overall, I enjoyed the read and I see myself purchasing the next book in the series.

I was hooked by the premise of this book, and it wildly exceeded my expectations. Especially the first parts when we first learn about the genie and what it can do. Then the world-building begins, and the author does a great job balancing the smaller stories within the larger story.
Highly recommended to any fans of sci-fi thrillers.

For a start to a series it’s not bad. It has enough intriguing ideas to keep me interested and enough action to keep the story moving forward. I would love to know more about the rest of the world, as it’s very Hunger Games-ish in the ideas behind it. Overall, worth a read and has piqued my curiosity for more.

I am not going to summarize the plot, or spoil the twist. This was a very fun read, with enough clues to make to ask,
"what, exactly, is going on?"

I thought this would be a fun read, but I couldn’t get past chapter 11. The premise was interesting but this book was so poorly written that it made my head hurt.

I came here last night after reading a thread posted to Reddit, mostly chasing a rabbit hole, but I got sucked in to the story. The writing is simple and it makes for a fast and enjoyable read. The story is very interesting and layered, my only dislike is that I have to wait a couple days for the second book.

The storyline us pretty good. The twists made it interesting. The run on sentences made it a bit difficult to read, but I managed. I did enjoy this book and am going to get the sequel to see what happens next.

The book is amazing, I discovered the author on Reddit and found this book series, I read the dirst chapter and got hoocked, I wanted to know what hapens next, its truly entertaining I had not put it down for 2 days read it stright to the wnd! This is the first fiction book I have read in years and Im so happy I did I cant wait to get the next book in the series!

So many twists, at one point I was annoyed at the author because I thaught he was going down one route and I felt that it was not fair or just for our peotagonist but them bam he revealed his plns and I was hooked even more!

Id definately recommend it for anyone who likes science fiction, and apocolypse style stories!

Loved it bring on the next book!

So, if this was from Brandon Sanderson the rating here would be lower. But its not. Its a first book so I'll make allowances.
The story is original enough, though inspirations from other popular series can be seen if you analyse. The plot is generally engaging to get into and an enjoyable read.
The problem is punctuation errors. Needs an editor to put in the right commas and take away unneeded ones and other small grammatical/sentence structure mistakes that could be easily fixed and make it feel a little unpolished.

Overall, I'd recommend the read for fans of dystopian future books.
