- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2021It is a lovely collection of traditional songs and a piece of history as well. I enjoy playing them both on Kalimba and 16 string Lyre Harp.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2020If you want some very old songs for the lyre, there are some at the back. This book is short, doesn’t have the best print quality, and was originally published in 1888. Out of three books I bought to use to learn the lyre, this was the least helpful.
I would recommend purchasing “Teach Yourself to Play the Folk Harp” by Sylvia Woods. It is nearly 4 times longer with background information about the lyre/folk harp, songs that are well written and easy to practice, and, most importantly, it helps you learn how to play your lyre/folk harp. This text works for instruments of various sizes and numbers of strings. But out of three lyre texts I’ve ordered, this was the best for those who do not already have knowledge of how to play the lyre/folk harp.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2021I liked it was JUST music, but a learn "how to" or having a cheat sheet would of been nice in the book.
I was very disappointed when I saw that the music looked liked an old scanned copy of the songs.
Everything was blurry, the cover was blurry and the music was blurry and hard to read the lryics when.
There are some music notes I am not familiar with for the lyre (being a beginner in Play) that would of been nice to have a cheat sheet. I am glad I can read the trouble cleft though.
Nice too have music, but don't think this book was worth the price.

2.0 out of 5 stars basically all classic stories to music
i was hoping it would be more about learning some old songs with some instructions on how to do it. But it is not. It reminds me of being back in school and reading the writing's of William Shakespeare., and listening to stories from your grand parents. I like reading classics, but this is way different, think about going out on a date, and then writing about how it turned out with music to it. It is a shame that they didn't put more effort into how to play the music, as it would have been interesting adding the music to the words. May I will get lucky and it will come out like the song of Robin Hood, when played by Richard Greene., It was a catchy tune that stayed on your mind, the same as the Beverly Hillbillys
