Galba (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Galba, the governor of Hispania, led a revolt against Nero (r. 54-68 CE) in 68 CE. Despite initially being branded an enemy of the state, the support of the Roman army allowed him to overthrow Nero. Galba, already an old man by the time he became emperor, was usurped by his one-time ally Otho in 69 CE. The end Galba’s short and violent reign proved to be just one episode in what became known as the Year of the Four Emperors.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction are the Capitoline bust of Galba and the bust from the Stockholm Museum of Antiquities, used as references for this reconstruction.
