Geta (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Geta (r. 211 CE) ruled jointly with his older brother Caracalla (r. 211-217 CE) after the death of their father Septimius Severus. This arrangement was doomed to fail, as the two brothers distrusted each other from the start. Their mother Julia Domna (160-217 CE) mediated between them but was unable to prevent Caracalla from having Geta murdered. Geta reigned for less than a year before Caracalla ordered his death and the erasure of his memory.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction are the statuary and portraits used as references. These include the Capitoline Museum bust (top left), a presumed head of Geta (top right), and a bust from the Louvre (bottom right).
