Trajan (Artistic Facial Reconstruction)
Trajan (98-117 CE) was the successor of Nerva. Trajan rose to power in the Roman military. His martial background influenced his reign, and he waged a successful war against the Parthian Empire. The Roman Empire reached its greatest extent under Trajan, who conquered Dacia and the Kingdom of Nabataea. Trajan fell ill while on campaign and died of a stroke in 117 CE after returning to Italy.
Pictured alongside the reconstruction are the busts and statuary used as references. These include two marble portraits from the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (left) and two from the Museum of Art History, Vienna (right).
