Balbinus (Artistic Facial Reconstruction) — View Full-Size Image

Balbinus (r. 238 CE) remained in Rome while his partner Pupienus waged war on Maximinus. However, he too was unable to keep the peace in the city and was murdered by the Praetorian Guard along with Pupienus. Their reign together was less than three months.

Pictured alongside the reconstruction are the portraits used as references, including a bust from the Ephesus Museum (top left), the Hermitage Museum bust (right), and the Capitoline Museum bust (bottom left).
