Pot from Sedment in northern Egypt, Middle Kingdom (1750-1500 BCE). Similar containers have also been recovered from the ancient Sudanese site of Kerma. The decoration on these objects is thought to imitate basketry. More recently, it has been suggested that the vessel may represent types of huts that were common in the area.
