Richly decorated Sassanian sword and scabbard. Iron blade, with gilded wood scabbard and hilt, inlaid with garnets and glass paste. The Sasanians adopted this style from the Huns, a nomadic people who came into conflict with the Sassanian Empire in the 5th century CE. 7th century CE. Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
