Parthian Cataphract
Cataphracts, heavily armoured cavalry, were used throughout antiquity and the Middle Ages. They were particularly well used by the Persians, including the Parthian Empire and Sassanian Empire. This clay plaque shows a heavily armoured Parthian cataphract wearing scale or lamellar armour and a "coal skuttle" helmet. 3rd century BCE - 2nd century CE.
