Assyrian Helmet
Assyrian military equipment was particularly effective. Pointed helmets deflected blows or missiles, and were commonly issued to Assyrian soldiers. This iron example was decorated with bronze inlay, now corroded to a greenish color. The design shows a procession of attendants and an arched panel framing a king. Around the rim, a series of holes show where the original lining was attached. From the North-West Palace at Nimrud, northern Mesopotamia, Iraq. c. 800-700 BCE.
