Imperial Colonnade Egg by Fabergé
The 1910 Imperial Colonnade Egg by Peter Carl Fabergé (1846-1920). The egg was given by Tsar Nicholas II (r. 1894-1917) to his wife Alexandra Feodorovna. The egg is made from gold with pink enamel while the temple support consists of six bowenite columns. The egg has a rotating clock device with diamond numerals and is topped by a gilded cupid. Four silver-gilded female cherubs sit on the circular base. Within the columns are two platinum doves. The two doves represent the tsar and his wife while their four daughters are represented by the cherubs and their only son by the cupid. The whole object measures 28 cm (11 in) in height.
