Pan Teaching Daphnis
In Greek and Roman mythology, the wilderness god Pan loved the shepherd Daphnis, whom he instructed in playing the panflute and composing poetry. The pederastic relationship between Pan and Daphnis was a popular motif in Greek sculpture. This Roman copy of a 3rd-century BCE original by Heliodoros depicts Pan instructing Daphnis.
