Still Life with Italian Earthenware Jar by Cézanne
A c. 1873 still life painting in oils, Still Life with Italian Earthenware Jar, by Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), the French post-impressionist artist. This painting shows the transition from impressionism with its emphasis on atmospheric tones to post-impressionism and more intense colouring. This was painted while the artist stayed with Dr. Gachet, a collector and supporter of the impressionists who was famously captured by his patient Vincent van Gogh. (Private Collection)
