Detour in Auvers by Cézanne
A c. 1873 painting in oils, Detour in Auvers, by Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), the French post-impressionist artist. This work shows influence from Cézanne's longtime associate Camille Pisarro who stressed the importance of composition and structure in a scene. The road bend leads the viewer's eye into the heart of the painting. The small brush dabs are another influence from Pisarro. (Private Collection)
