Le Moulin de Blute-Fin by van Gogh
An 1886 oil on canvas painting, Le Moulin de Blute-Fin, by Vincent van Gogh (1853-90), the Dutch post-impressionist artist. Painted in Paris while van Gogh shared an apartment with his brother Theo. The artist made a whole series of paintings on local windmills around the city and, as here, at Montmartre, using a lighter palette than his earlier works but markedly less dramatic than those which would follow when he moved to the south of France. The silhouette of the windmill is accentuated by looking from below and having half the canvas as sky. The relatively rare signature indicates the artist considered this a finished work.
