An 1879 gouache and pastels on linen, Portrait of Edmond Duranty, by Edgar Degas (1834-1917), the French impressionist painter. A good friend of the artist and the impressionists in general, Duranty was an art critic and novelist. (Burrell Collection, Glasgow, Scotland)
