Woman with Chrysanthemums by Degas — View Full-Size Image

An 1865 oil on canvas painting, *Woman with Chrysanthemums*, by Edgar Degas (1834-1917), the French impressionist painter. Despite the title, the flowers are dahlias, asters, and gaillardias. Degas rarely painted still life, and here he combines it with a portrait, possibly of the wife of his childhood friend Paul Valpinçon, who must just have completed arranging the flowers since her garden gloves are visible on the table.
