In this gallery, we showcase 30 paintings by Claude Monet (1840-1926), the French painter who is regarded by many as the master of impressionism. The paintings are presented in chronological sequence to better show the artist's development from his early still lifes and portraits to the beginnings of his impressionist style and on to the various series he painted on particular themes such as London's Houses of Parliament, Rouen Cathedral, and the water lilies in his garden retreat at Giverny.
Boudin put up his easel and set to work…for me it was like the rending of a veil; I understood; I grasped what painting could be…my destiny as a painter opened up before me.
