Beach, Dieppe by Gauguin
An 1885 oil on canvas, Beach, Dieppe, by Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) the French post-impressionist painter. An archetypal impressionist take on a summer view showing bathers and sailing boats on the Normandy coast, this work shows the influence of Claude Monet (1840-1926). The unusual square format may have been the request of a commission. (Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen)
