Milling Machine
The milling machine was once thought to have been invented by Eli Whitney (already famous for his cotton gin) c. 1818, but as with many other inventions of the Industrial Revolution, the truth may be more complex regarding who invented what and when. This 19th-century milling machine was made in Manchester, England. Machines like this were used to cut and pierce metal into a desired form, for example, nuts for bolts. The machine allowed pieces to be made that were almost impossible to do by hand-cutting, and so it revolutionised manufacturing in all areas of production.
