Marie de France
Marie de France (wrote c. 1160-1215) was a trilingual medieval poet who greatly contributed to French literature. Her true name is unknown and she is simply referred to as Marie de France. Most of what is known of her comes from her writings. Marie wrote on romantic and magical themes, and many of her works featured lower-class citizens. One of her most well-known works is the Lais, a series of 12 short poems that explore courtly love. The sophisticated writings of Marie placed her as a prominent figure in French literature, and her world continues to be studied today.
