Queen Tamar of Georgia
Queen Tamar (r. 1184-1213) was queen of Georgia and was one of Georgia’s most extraordinary rulers. Tamar ruled alongside her father George III of Georgia (r. 1156-1184) until his death when she alone would rule. During Tamar’s reign, Georgia reached its peak of stability and expansion due to her political prowess, diplomacy skills, and patronage of the arts. An extremely pious woman, The Gregorian Orthodox Church would later declare Tamar a saint.
