St. Catherine of Siena
Catherine of Siena (1347-1380) was a prominent figure in the Catholic Church. From a young age, Catherine was devoted to God and is said to have experienced mystical visions. In 1363, Catherine became a tertiary and quickly garnered attention for her great piety and asceticism, as well as her devotion to helping the poor. Catherine would travel and promote church reform beyond her local community. In 1461, Catherine was canonized. This was not the end of her journey because in 1970 she was declared a Doctor of the Church and a patron saint of Europe in 1991.
