Olga of Kiev
Olga of Kiev (c. 890 to c 969) or St. Olga of Kievan Rus is widely known for her diplomacy skills and eventual conversion to Christianity. After the assassination of her husband Igor I (c. 877-945), Prince of Kiev, Olga became regent of Kievan Rus on behalf of her son Svyatoslav I (died 972) from 945 to 964. Olga was recorded as the first female ruler of Kievan Rus and during her time as regent, Olga would avenge her husband’s death and be the first ruler of Kievan Rus to convert to Christianity. In the Orthodox Church, Olga was canonized as the first saint from Keivan Rus.
