Illustration of Matilda of Tuscany
Matilda of Tuscany (c. 1046-1115) was a Countess of Tuscany who was known for her great strategic political skills as well as supporting the Catholic Church. During her life, Matilda was successful in navigating the complex Italian region as she supported the Papacy over imperial rulings. Matilda is remembered for more than her political skills, she is also known for her patronage of the arts and this patronage helped shape the history of Italy.
