Throughout the ages, people have wondered what daily life in ancient Greece and Rome may have been like. How did people in the Classical World go about their lives, and was it really different to how we live today?
We have frescoes, mosaics and vases from antiquity depicting daily life, giving us glimpses of how people back then saw their own lives. Over the centuries since, artists have attempted to recreate life in antiquity through painting. In this gallery, we explore the depictions of daily life in ancient times, juxtaposing modern artist's impressions with actual depictions from ancient times. We will likely never know what it was really like, but art gives us a way to visualize what may have been.
