Château de Chinon
Château de Chinon, Indre-et-Loire, France. The promontory on which the royal fortress of Chinon stands has been used for thousands of years. Gradually, the fortress was divided into three distinct parts, which the kings called their "three castles": Fort du Coudray, Château du Milieu, and Fort Saint-Georges. Its thousand-year-old walls have welcomed many prestigious guests, including Eleanor of Aquitaine, Henry II of England, Charles VII, and Joan of Arc, at major turning points in the history of France.
