Château de Montsoreau
Château de Montsoreau, Maine et Loire, France. Built on the site of a medieval castle from 1450, the Château de Montsoreau welcomed many prestigious guests, including Louis XI of France (r. 1461-1483), Anne of Brittany (l. 1477-1514) and François I of France (r. 1515-1547), as well as illustrious artists such as Auguste Rodin (l. 1840-1917) and William Turner (l. 1775-1851). In 1913, the département of Maine et Loire became the owner of the château, and it now houses a fabulous collection of contemporary art.
