Athassel Priory, County Tipperary, Ireland — View Full-Size Image

The Augustinian Athassel Priory dates to the 12th century and is the largest medieval priory in Ireland covering 4 acres (1.6 ha). Located in the Village of Golden, Country Tipperary, just outside of the city of Cashel, the priory was dissolved in 1537 during the Protestant Reformation and the land turned over to Thomas Butler, 10th Earl of Ormond, who allowed the priory to fall into ruin. It is also known as the Athassel Abbey.
