Hiroshima after the Atomic Bomb Attack
A photograph of the Japanese city of Hiroshima after being hit by an atomic bomb dropped from a US Air Force Boeing B-29 Superfortress on 6 August 1945. The bomb was dropped in order to end the Second World War (1939-45) as quickly as possible. Around 140,000 people were killed in the attack. The ruined building was the Industry Promotional Hall. This site was maintained as a memorial to the disaster.
