The Nad-e `Ali is a Shia and Sufi prayer (du`a) that reads as follows:
Nad-e `Aliyan, Call Ali
Mazhar al-Ajaib, Who is the manifestor of wonders
Tajidahu Aunan Laka fi Nawib You will find him (to be) your helper in diffciulties
Kulu Hamim wa Ghamim Every grief and every sorrow
Sayanji `Ali Will be eased, O Ali
Biwilayatika By your sacred guardianship
Ya `Ali Ya `Ali Ya `Ali O Ali O Ali O Ali
The artist has signed his name:
Written by the poor sinner Muhammad Salih, the scribe, may his sins be forgiven and his faults be covered.
In this folio, the writing is cleverly integrated with the ornamental background and is so drawn to give the impression that the words are floating.
