Wall relief from Nimrud depicting the Assyrian King Ashurnasirpal II lion-hunting from his royal chariot. Lion-hunting was a symbol of prestige in Mesopotamia and was strongly associated with kingship in art. Ashurnasirpal II is accompanied by two attendants, who stand at the ready with shields and daggers. (The British Museum, London)
