Marble Statuette of Bona Dea
Bona Dea (Latin: "The Good Goddess") was the goddess of fertility, chastity, and healing. She was primarily worshipped by women and slaves, and only women were allowed to participate in her yearly rites. These rites were the only time Roman women were permitted to engage in blood sacrifice, usually reserved for men. Bona Dea was typically depicted on a throne, with a cornucopia and sometimes a snake.
