Venus of Milo
Venus is known today as the goddess of love and beauty; the Romans also associated her with victory, prosperity and motherhood. Her importance in Roman mythology was such that many Roman families claimed to be descended from her. Often depicted in the nude, Venus was portrayed as a young woman.
