Stamps on pottery vessels may refer to the makers or owners. They may also be trademarks that record capacity or content. The handles of amphorae from the Mediterranean island of Rhodes carried stamps indicating the quality of their contents of luxury wine, which was exported throughout the Mediterranean and as far as India. They bore the potter's stamp, the island's symbols, and even the manufacturing license and the name of the responsible official. Hellenistic period, 300-100 BCE. From Jordan. (The Jordan Museum, Amman, Jordan).
