A posthumous painting of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster (1340 - 1399). John of Gaunt founded the House of Lancaster, and was a close friend of the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer (1343 - 1400).

Originally erroneously attributed to Lucas Cornelisz de Kock (1495 - 1552), this painting was commissioned by Sir Edward Hoby (1560 - 1617) for Queenborough Castle, Kent. The painting is now in the possession of the Duke of Beaufort at Badminton House, Gloucestershire, UK.
