Bamburgh Castle was originally built as a fort in the 5th Century CE and a castle was built on the site by the Normans at the turn of the 11th Century CE. The castle was besieged twice by forces loyal to Edward IV of England (r. 1461 to 1470 CE, 1471 - 1483 CE) during the Wars of the Roses (1455 - 1487 CE).
