The engraving depicts the ruins of Jamestown following Bacon's Rebellion of 1676 CE during which Jamestown was burned to the ground. This event was the climax of the rebellion after which it dissipated when its leader, Nathaniel Bacon, died of dysentery. Other major participants were then hanged by Governor George Berkeley.
