Patrick Henry Before the Virginia House of Burgesses, painting by the American artist Peter F. Rothermel (l. 1817-1895 CE), 1852 CE.
The painting depicts the patriot Patrick Henry proclaiming, "If this be treason, make the most of it!" in opposition to Britain's Stamp Act of 1765 CE. The work is one of Rothermel's most famous pieces and depicts Henry as a larger-than-life patriot standing for the cause of liberty against an audience cowed by the fear of opposing British rule of the North American colonies.
