The c. 1425 triptych Mérode altarpiece by Robert Campin. It is one of the most celebrated of smaller altarpieces meant for private use. It measures open 118 x 65 cm and shows the Annunciation using an interesting early attempt at spatial perspective. (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York)
