Pendant with a Borre-style design of a gripping beast inside a frame further decorated with four protruding animal heads. Small areas of gilding and niello are in evidence on the surface of the pendant. Found at Norfolk, England, 10th century.

The British Museum, London.

The Borre style is a style of Viking art with forms arranged in closed compositions with knot-like interlacing. Animal motifs appear more naturalistic, with relaxed bodies. Spirals are introduced to represent joints, and figures may be reduced to decorative heads or appear as in-the-round forms.
