A map illustrating the rise of the Sumerian city-state of Ur out of the collapse of the Akkadian Empire and the forging of the Kingdom of the Third Dynasty of Ur (also known as the Sumerian Renaissance or the Ur III Empire) by its first king - Ur-Namma. Ur-Namma, and later, his son and successor Shulgi, created an empire that ruled Mesopotamia in the 21st century BCE for the third and final time in history.
