A c. 1867 painting in oils, The Murder, by Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), the French Post-Impressionist artist. This dramatic scene of two men about to murder a third figure shows the influence of Spanish painting on the artist. The awfulness of the scene is accentuated by the brooding landscape and dark sky.
