An 1873-5 painting in oils, Flowers in a Blue Vase, by Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), the French post-impressionist artist. Here Cézanne is keen to show texture, form, and the bright colours and their reflections and shadows. This was painted while Cézanne was staying with Dr. Gachet in Auvers-sur-Oise, the flowers were arranged by Madame Gachet. (Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg)
