An 1877-80 portrait painting in oils, Victor Chocquet, by Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), the French post-impressionist artist. Chocquet (1821-91) was an art collector who supported the impressionists (when very few people did), Cézanne in particular, buying 33 of his paintings. Fellow artist Edgar Degas famously described this painting as "the portrait of a madman made by a madman". (Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio, USA)
